Due to many bright sunny days recently, it is predicted that this year will have some of the best fall colors in 10 years. With that being said the fall colors haven’t arrived yet to the North Shore. The trees are turning very slowly. Several overlooks in the Sawtooth Mountains and Tettegouche State Park saw very little color change this week. I predict another two weeks before the colors are at peak. Rain over the last few days will help as the woods have been very dry. The rains are also helping to put out the 100,000 acre Pagami Creek fire currently burning in the BWCAW.Two Harbors Light Station
In Two Harbors the DNR is working on the boat landing but don’t let that deter you from making your way to Lighthouse Point. Sometimes the Two Harbors Light Station gets passed by but there are some great views of Lake Superior when you climb the stairs and look out the portholes in the upper tower.Deer Drinking
I watched for our resident bear family last Wednesday. Both times the bears have visited were on a Wednesday. During the two hours that I watched the only wildlife I saw was this doe and her fawn. They snorted at something in the woods but if it was the bear family I never saw them. I drove into town to run some errands and upon returning home I found a huge pile of bear scat in the driveway. I wonder if they crossed the bridge this time.
