Aurora activity was predicted for Friday, September 9. According to Spaceweather.com, geomagnetic storms were happening at both the North and South Poles. The best time to observe aurora or northern lights is near midnight. I was fighting off a head cold so I wasn’t sure I wanted to go out at midnight to take photos. I didn’t set the alarm but happened to wake up just after 11:00 p.m. and looked outside. The green glow of the northern lights was dancing all around the northern sky.Northern Lights Over Grand Marais, MN
From the top of the cliff at the Cutface Wayside just south of Grand Marais I could see the two bands of aurora arching around the North Pole. Some people say that Grand Marais is at the end of the earth. That is not the case but in this photo it appears as though the northern lights end in Grand Marais.
