Read MoreAugust Full Moon Grand Marais Harbor
There were three consecutive nights in August that the full moon rose early enough to get a good photograph. The first night was too cloudy, the second night was foggy and only the third night worked out. There were clouds also that night but I went to the Grand Marais harbor just in case the clouds broke up. My GPS indicated that the moonrise was around 8:33 PM. I waited and waited but saw no moon. I decided the clouds were too thick so I took the camera off the tripod, placed it in the car and headed for home.
As I was leaving town I decided to take one more look. I looked back and just a sliver of the moon was starting to break through the clouds so I turned around and headed back to the beach. I quickly grabbed by camera and reached for my tripod but it wasn’t in the back seat. I looked over to where I was parked before and saw my tripod sitting in the middle of the parking lot where I had left it earlier. Luckily it was still there.
The evening ended well as I got the photo I was after and I also got my tripod back.
Note: to get this photo I had to use one photo with the lighthouse properly exposed and another one with the moon not burned out. I then combined them.
