Crystal Bay Waves 001

We were on our way to Duluth for a doctor's appointment when I heard that gale force winds from the Northeast were predicted. We headed out a little early thinking there would be some nice waves crashing into the shoreline at Crystal Bay located in Tettegouche State Park.

We weren’t disappointed. Since it wasn’t snowing on this stretch of the North Shore the lighting was great for photos.

We spent about an hour watching and photographing the hundreds of waves colliding with the thirty-foot rock cliffs.

This one looked like it was going to take a bite out of the rock.

The waves came in many shapes and sizes. The sounds were amazing.

The largest waves covered the adjacent trees with spray. If the temperatures would have been colder these trees would be coated with ice.

January "Wolf Full Moon"

Lake Superior had calmed down two days later as we watched the “Wolf Full Moon” rising above Split Rock Lighthouse. On the way home there was a wolf standing on the snowbank alongside HWY61 with the “Wolf Full Moon” in the sky above it.
