I was photographing the sunrise and noticed that the Grand Marais Harbor had frozen over. With the clear ice I was hopeful that we would have a nice sunset to reflect in the ice.

That night the sunset was extraordinary. After three days of up to 70 mph winds, downed trees, power outages and drifting snow it was enjoyable to see the beautiful sunset. Like the editor of the local paper said, “A Gift from Heaven after three days of Hell”.

The new ice reflected the colorful clouds making for one of the best sunsets of the year. It even had a "Sun Pillar".

It was exceptionally red lasting for some time as people gathered along the shore in Grand Marais to watch.

About a half hour after the sun went down the clouds were still showing color. Was a great way to end 2022.
