White-tailed Buck 001

Since it is deer season, I thought I would post some images of the largest white-tailed deer I have photographed over the years. This beauty was photographed early one morning next to the Lake View National Gulf Course in Two Harbors. I was in some dense trees as he came around the pond. Fortunately, he never got my sent until after I got the photo.

This eleven-point buck was also in Two Harbors closer to Lake Superior. He was in an area that isn’t frequented by very many people. I was hiking through the tall grass where he happened to be laying and he got up as I went by.

This is the same deer as in the previous photo but in a different location. I was lucky to have him pose in front of the late turning colorful leaves.

I came upon these two bucks as they were fighting. They heard the clicking of my camera and separated. You can see why sometimes they can get their antlers locked together. They hit each other with pretty good force.

While walking through a North Shore campground I came across this nice eight-pointer while he was resting in a draw. When he got up, I was able to get some nice photos. He was interested in the females that were off to my side.

This was the widest eight-point antlers I have ever seen on any white-tail. He was in the lower estuary of the Gooseberry River. It was a perfect hiding place as deer hunting opened up. I could see him lying in the tall grass from the ridge above. Just his antlers were sticking above the grass. When he noticed me, he stood up but didn’t leave he just changed places and went back to hiding in the grass. He knew where to avoid hunters.
