One of the names of the December full moon is “Cold Moon”. Luckily it wasn’t cold this week when I decided to photograph the moon coming up over the cliff at Split Rock Lighthouse. After a short walk to the beach, I meet three park visitors that were getting ready to leave.
I informed them that if they stayed a few more minutes, they could see the moon rising above the lighthouse. They all changed their minds and decided to stay. When the light from the moon came through the trees it definitely put smiles on everyone’s faces. It was a pretty special evening. They were all glad they stayed.
Jupiter was also shining bright in the night sky.December's Full Moon 002
It was quiet and peaceful watching the moonrise. Everyone was just captivated by the beautiful view over the waters of Lake Superior. Then from the ridge behind us several wolves started howling. They always say that wolves don’t howl at the moon but I was envisioning the pack standing on the ridge howling towards the moon .
I have had several encounters with wolves over the years but none like the one when we were calling moose and seven wolves surrounded us of which one was a rare white wolf. Even though it happened two years ago WDIO news aired this wolf adventure this last week on “The Lift”. The link to the program is under the next photo if you want to see it.Wolf Adventure
