Full Hunters Moon 001

The actual night of the Full Hunter’s Moon was Wednesday but the forecast called for overcast skies so I decided to photograph the Hunter’s Moon Monday and Tuesday evenings. On Monday the moon came up 20 minutes before sunset. It was a clear night so the setting sun turned the eastern sky a beautiful pink and blue.

It was fun to be out as calm waters added to the extraordinarily warm weather for late fall. Several photographers were lined up along the new break wall capturing the brilliance of the evening. It was so peaceful.

Tuesday evening the moon came up at the same time as sunset. With the lighter sky the moon turned a striking orange.

There wasn’t a cloud in the sky and again exceptionally warm for late October. You can never get to many photos of the moon rising over lighthouses.

Moose Calling 001

I haven’t had very much luck moose calling this year. Out of a half a dozen times calling over three weeks I have no photos to show for it. Several moose answered me and I could hear them in the woods but they never came out in the open where I could photograph them. On Monday this week a young bull did answer my call and stepped out in the open.

He was drooling as he walked up since I was making the cow sound and he was excited to find the source.

Once he saw me disappointment set in so he turned and headed for the woods. I called one more time. He stopped and looked over his shoulder just as the morning sunlight hit his antlers. His antlers weren’t very big but he sure was a beautiful animal.

Tamarack Reflections

On my way home, I came by this beaver pond. The glow of the tamaracks reflected in the still waters. I stayed for about an hour and tried calling. This is a good area for moose and if I could have gotten one to come out of the tamaracks it would have been one awesome photo but it was not to be.
