The Department of Natural Resources completed the section of the Gitchi-Gami Trail from Grand Marais to Cutface Wayside. Almost half of this section is located within the boundaries of Cascade River State Park. Public land right up to the shore provides this section some of the greatest views of Lake Superior. It is now open and is getting plenty of use.
Here is a sunrise photo from one part of the wayside. The trail runs along the shore in the left part of this photo. The light you see out on the lake in the top right of the photo is from our local commercial fishermen pulling herring from their nets.Gitchi-Gami Trail Grand Marais to Cutface Wayside 004
Rather than just installing a cement bridge across the river DNR engineers designed a beautiful wood structure that joins in well with the gorge. Everyone going by stops at this spot! Now people with electric wheelchairs also have access to the falls.
