We have about half a dozen forest fires that are burning in our area right now. The day I took these photos the Greenwood Fire doubled in size to over 26,000 acres.
In a short period of time it consumed several homes and cabins by McDougal Lake. The fire was so intense that it created its own weather pattern producing lightning and high winds. Fire fighters had to retreat until the winds died down.
By evening most of the North Shore was covered in smoke. I took this photo at sunset from the Pincushion Overlook above Grand Marias which is over 60 miles from the fire.
Last week I posted some photos of the rising Sturgeon Full Moon. The next day I went into Grand Marais before sunrise to capture some images of the moon setting. You can see smoke in the air.
