The juvenile Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are starting to get their iridescent feathers now. This week I captured this one flashing his first feather. It almost looks like a spot of paint on its throat.

Over winter the males develop their adult plumage and look like this mature adult.

We have been having fun seeing how close these little bundles of energy will come to us. They are pretty tame after a while.

A friend of ours stopped before heading back to college. Lucy gave it a try and had several come up to her.

Two of our granddaughters were over for a couple of days. The hummingbirds would come close but Tova just couldn’t sit still long enough. She had fun watching them though.

Silje sat longer and the hummers buzzed around her but didn’t come in to feed. Maybe next time.

Gray Tree Frog 001

The girls found two little gray tree frogs under the hummingbird feeders.

They both love playing with frogs when they are visiting. You would think this frog would be called a green tree frog by its color but gray tree frogs turn whatever color the vegetation is that they are sitting on. I have seen them every shade of gray to green.

Tova was pretty impressed when it started to climb up her arm with its sticky little feet. I am glad the girls enjoy spending time outside.

The week ended with a beautiful full moon that we watched come up over the Grand Marais Harbor.
