This week we explored two state parks with one of our granddaughters. On our way up to Grand Portage State Park we stopped at the overlook and watched the fog move in on the Susie Islands.

We happened to be there at just the right time to see the islands become engulfed in fog.

Within a few minutes all we saw were the tops of a few trees.

High Falls Grand Portage State Park 001

With the overcast skies there wasn’t a rainbow but the falls are always impressive. Wild roses framed the bottom of the photo.

The staff cleared some of the vegetation giving visitors a great view as you walk to the second overlook.

Addie has seen the 135-foot falls before but the falls are never the same and always memorable.

The international boundary goes down the middle of the falls so that is Canada on the right and in the background.

Pink and White Showy Lady's-slippers 001

We drove down the shore to Gooseberry Falls State Park but there were way too many visitors to spend time at the falls. A side trail to see the Pink and White Showy Lady’s-slippers was more peaceful.

This is the state flower and they were exceptionally beautiful this year.
