April Supermoon 001

On April 7 the biggest “Supermoon” of the year lit up skies across the world. It is considered a “Supermoon” when it’s at its closest point to the earth during its elliptical orbit.

I photographed it across the Grand Marais Harbor. Due to clouds the first night it didn’t show bright until it got above the lighthouse. The winds were calm but we still had rollers coming into the harbor.

This one was taken at a longer exposure adding motion blur to the waves.

Early the next morning I went to the other side of the harbor to photograph the setting “Supermoon” with the Sawtooth Mountains as a backdrop.

A beautiful calm morning.

Just before sunrise the sky turned pink.

The next night the “Supermoon” came up an hour after sunset. The sky was dark but it was fun to catch the moon passing behind the Grand Marais Light.

While waiting for the moon to come up I took a thirty second exposure of the town of Grand Marais with its lights reflected across the harbor.

Easter Sunrise

This Easter morning there was a beautiful sunrise over Lake Superior. That is Five Mile Rock in the right of the photo.
