The weatherman on Wednesday evening said that Thursday was going to be rain and gloomy weather. We were in Duluth babysitting so I got up at 5:30 AM just in case the sunrise was going to be nice before the storm. I got to Skyline Drive as the Indiana Harbor was coming out of port with a load of iron ore ready to pass under the Aerial Life Bridge and head down lake.
Heading Downlake 003
After the Indiana Harbor cleared the lift bridge it turned starboard since the Michipicoten was about to arrive. There were actually four Great Lakes Freighters that arrived or departed the harbor while I watched. Along with the two I photographed the H. Lee White came into port and the CSL Tadousssac headed out of the Superior entry.
I think this has been the first time I have seen four ore boats move through the harbor at the same time. A lady walks by me and says “Isn’t it beautiful this time of day”. “I hike almost every day and very rarely see others enjoying the view”. I was certainly glad I got up early even though the forecast was for rain and gloomy weather.
