February’s full moon is called the “Snow Moon” and I photographed it in front of Split Rock Lighthouse. Over 75% of Lake Superior is now ice-covered creating shards along most of the North Shore. A lead in the ice opened up from Silver Bay to Grand Marais. The warmer air over the surface of the open water refracted the light causing a mirage. The rising moon looked like it was melting into the lake.
