With the cooler spring, the leaves have been slow in coming out as shown here in a recent photo of a bald eagle’s nest along Highway 61 north of Grand Marais.

In about a week’s time, the warmer weather arrived which created some storms and the trees leafed out.

Kayaking at Sunset

After one of the storms the lakes were as smooth as glass so I headed up the Gunflint Trail to photograph the sunset. The sun broke out right between two clouds making for one of the better sunsets I have seen in quite a while. A lone kayaker paddled by enjoying the beautiful evening.

Seeing the more than 200,000 gravestones is a stark reminder of the families that have sacrificed so much for our freedom. Like has been said so many times “Freedom is not Free”.
