Then I heard the sound of ducks and I turned around. I couldn’t believe how many mallards were in this pond along a small stream flowing into Lake Superior. There must have been two to three hundred. I could only photograph a small amount of them as brush surrounded the pond.
In the winter they use this pond as an overnight resting area. The spring fed water coming from under Highway 61 is warmer than Lake Superior’s water. It was enjoyable to see that many wild mallards in one location.
