Ice Shards 001

Lake Superior piled up more ice shards before releasing its wintery grip on the North Shore. East winds moved ice from the big part of the lake and the ice shards piled up on the shore from Grand Portage to Grand Marais. I took this photo in East Bay along the Grand Marais shoreline during sunrise. My granddaughter said it looked like gold.

The ice shards took on the colors of the rainbow from the late afternoon sun.

Where the ice shards lay against the rock, the warmth of the sun broke them apart showing the individual cylinders of ice. A phenomenon you don't see very often.

The ice on the north side of the break wall is taking a little longer to melt.
