Harvest Moon 001

The October Harvest Moon always appears larger than normal. This year I photographed it from the Split Rock Lighthouse State Park Hwy 61 wayside. Clouds hindered seeing the moon along the horizon but when it broke out of the clouds it made a great photograph.

Over 3 inches of rain brought many visitors to river watch this week.

The High Falls at Grand Portage went from 240 cubic feet per second to 2,400 cubic feet per second.

At 10:00 a.m. there was a complete rainbow covering the falls.

It was very difficult to get this photo of the double rainbow. Mist covered the camera before the shutter could be tripped. Half a second to take the photo after removing the lens cap before the camera lens was coated with water.

Lower Gooseberry Falls

The Gooseberry River flowed out of its banks in several places creating waterfalls through the trees.

The sound of the water running over the falls was as impressive as the view.

Mist was rising from each of the falls.

Intermittent Falls

Even the ditch banks along Highway 61 had beautiful intermittent waterfalls. This one was in the ditch by the Onion River.
