Pine Marten 001

Our resident pine marten comes around about every two weeks. They are super fast and about the only animal I know that can chase and catch a red squirrel either going up or down a tree.

I was fortunate that I was looking out the window when this guy came into the yard last week.

Two distinguishing marks are the light brown chest and black lines above each eye.

These sharp claws allow it to climb trees with ease. They are always looking around for prey.

This is the last photo that I got as he looked up at me from under our rail fence. It didn’t take it long to disappear out of sight.
