Saturday was a beautiful day for a bike ride. It was the 17th Annual Gitchi-Gami Trail Association North Shore Bike Ride.

Many families and groups gathered at Gooseberry Falls State Park and rode 8, 28, 37 or 55 miles along the North Shore. The trail isn’t completely finished yet, but the stretches that are go through some fantastic scenery.

The Beaver Bay stretch provides some great views of Lake Superior.

Friendly Chickadees 001

We spent four days with our youngest granddaughter this week. There is nothing more precious than spending time with grandkids. Silje loves the outdoors and we went to a friend’s house to hand feed their friendly chickadees. Silje sat perfectly still with seeds in her hand waiting for the birds.

When they came she decided that it would be better if they landed on grandma’s hand. I love the expression on her face when the first one landed.

Pretty soon it was all smiles but she still didn’t want them to land on her own hand.

Catching Frogs 001

Along with feeding chickadees, picking blueberries and raspberries we also caught frogs. After a rain, Silje searched the garden for frogs. She found about two dozen.

She didn’t like the feel of the frogs so she thought it was better if they sat on her knee.

August Full Sturgeon Moon

Last week we got to see the August Full Sturgeon Moon rise above the harbor in Grand Marais.
