Layer upon layer of ice froze quickly to the shrubs and trees creating a true ice forest.

This ice sculpture was at least 25 feet high. Access required crawling through ice-covered brush and on some very slippery rocks. Without ice crampons it would have been impossible.

There were amazing shapes all frozen in time.

I had to wedge myself into an ice crevice to get this photo. Taking a photo directly into the sun made the ice look like liquid mercury.

As the sun set all the icicles took on a warm glow.

After sunset the photos had a softer pastel look to them. It was an incredible experience finding new ice creations around every corner.
