Many birds live in the boreal forest of northern Minnesota but Canada Jays are by far the friendliest. They are also called camp robbers, gray jays and whiskey jacks. Camp robbers describe their demeanor. They hang out near campsites and steal any food that isn’t closely guarded. I have lost many lunch items to Canada Jays over the years.
We drove up the Gunflint trail with friends in search of moose and other wildlife. We didn’t find any moose but two Canada Jays made our day. I didn’t need a telephoto lens to get a close-up photo of this guy.
