Liquid Snow

Over the last week the warmer temperatures have liquefied the snow we had and it is flowing down the north shore streams on its way to Lake Superior.

Snowshoe Hare 001

The snowshoe hares, which turn white in winter, think they are camouflaged. This one thought it was hiding but without the snow on the ground it stuck out like a sore thumb.

Parts of its feet and ears still have a brown tinge.

After following this hare for an hour I got a good image without any branches in the way.

As of today we have more snow so the snowshoe hares are camouflaged again. I took this photo a few years ago but it remains one of my favorite snowshoe hare photos. They have huge feet that act like snowshoes and let them run over the top of the snow with ease. Hence the name “snowshoe hare”.
