Karla and I just spent three wonderful days in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness with friends of ours. The weather was supposed to be nice so it was a last minute decision to head into Saganaga Lake for three days of canoe camping. We were surprised at how few people were out. Many of the campsites were empty so we had several to choose from. We picked one on an island that was covered in red and white pines. It had some high ridges that gave beautiful views over Sag Lake.
Split Rock Lighthouse Sunrise 001
The day before we headed into the BWCAW I headed to Split Rock Lighthouse to get a sunrise photo. There are only two days a year where you can catch the sun rising right behind the light from the Hwy 61 wayside. It was supposed to be cloudy so I took a chance driving down but was sure glad I did. The thicker clouds hadn’t covered all of Lake Superior by the time the sun came up so there was a nice band of pink clouds being lit up by the rising sun. The sun was just breaking the horizon when I got there.
