Fall Aurora 001

When getting ready for bed on Tuesday night I glanced out the window and saw a green glow on the horizon. Earlier Karla had read about an aurora alert for that evening so I decided to drive up the Caribou Trail and hope for a good showing of northern lights and I wasn’t disappointed. The waters of Caribou Lake were as smooth as glass, which gave beautiful reflections.

It was one of the more magnificent northern light displays that I have witnessed in many years. Between the loons calling on the lake, a barred owl calling from the woods and the sight of the beautiful aurora I stood there for a while and realized how blessed I was to be able to live in the beautiful north woods.

After taking reflection photos of the shoreline, a huge column of green began to form overhead. I thought this must look like the photos taken in Alaska or Norway.

It appeared as a column of green smoke as it slowly moved across the skyline. I framed it between some trees and started shooting photos.

It constantly changed in size and shape and after about five minutes it was gone. The best photos were taken just after 1:00 a.m. This was definitely a night to remember.
