This week we had many outdoor adventures with our granddaughter. We camped for several days in Moose Lake State Park, as Addie loves camping and spending time outdoors. We found a pileated woodpeckers nest.

I thought that the babies would have fledged already but one little male was still in the nesting cavity and Dad was trying to get him to fly. I think the siblings were already out and flying about.

Dad was encouraging this last one to jump and wasn’t feeding him. The parents stop feeding their young to get them to leave the nest.

I set the camera on the tripod so Addie could take some photos. She used the remote cable as the dad came in for one of the last times before the baby jumped. This is one of Addie's photos.

Fishing at Moose Lake State Park

We also did some fishing on Echo Lake within the park. Addie caught and released about 25 sunfish and was having a great time. Take a kid fishing and you make a lot of memories. A state park is a great place to take a kid fishing as you can rent a boat, you don’t need a fishing license and some parks even have fishing rods you can use.

A loon family swam by and Addie loved seeing the baby loons. As one baby stuck its head out from under the mom’s wing, the feather bent up covering its little head.

The next morning at sunrise I returned to get more photos.

The babies swam along side the parents while they caught small minnows.

The sun glistened off the adult’s head creating a unique photo.

It was a lot of fun to see the babies stretching their little wings.

Every few minutes they climbed on the adult’s back. This one splashed water when getting on the mom’s back.

They felt pretty safe when on a parent’s back.

They were still feeding minnows to the babies when I left. I thought this one was exceptionally cute looking up at its breakfast. The other baby is under the wing.
