Northern Hawk Owl
When we returned from down south this week we came through Duluth and found a few rare birds. First was this Northern Hawk Owl. It was snowing pretty hard so it was hard to get a good photo but fun to see.
This Glaucous Gull was on the ice by the Aerial Lift Bridge.
There were also a few Pintail in the same area.
Feeding within a flock of mallards was this Eider. Several birders were there looking for it.
Ice Covered Ore Boat
This ore boat was in winter layup but still carrying its winter coat of ice from crossing Lake Superior in -50 degree wind chills.
Grand Marais Sunset
When we got to Grand Marais some of the trees were adorned with their winter coat of ice also.
