One of our local fishermen, Harley Toftey nets Lake Superior herring until freeze up. Along with gulls a few bald eagles are hanging around the harbor trying to snatch some of the herring.

This double-banded eagle has been coming back to Grand Marais for several years and I am thinking it is well up there in years..

It was an unseasonably warm blue-sky day when I photographed the eagle flying over the Grand Marais campground.

Grand Marais Sunrise

Along with being treated to really nice weather this week we had a great sunrise. The building in the right of the photo is the historical fish house in the Grand Marais campground. That’s a muskrat swimming away from the building.

We were also treated to a very impressive sunset. You can see that the waves are coming over the break-wall.

After the sunset I photographed the waves in slow motion as the spray was coating the rocks along the shoreline.
