There have seen some pretty nice sunrises over Lake Superior recently. This photo was taken in front of East Bay in downtown Grand Marais.

Several gulls were flying around and fortunately one flew through my frame as I was taking the sunrise photo.

Afterwards one landed on the handrail right in front of me looking for a handout.

The next morning the sun had a very hazy glow. I believe it was in part due to the smoke from the fires out west. There have been so many fires in Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Northern California that the smoke has made it all the way to Michigan.

I believe the mark on the lower part of the sun is sunspot AR2403. It is growing each day and could be our next source of northern lights if it explodes while facing the earth.

It isn't to often that you can herd ducks with a stand-up paddle board on the streets of Grand Marais.

Beaver Pond Gunflint Trail

We took a drive to this beaver pond on the Gunflint Trail. Several people have seen moose in this pond over the last week but we weren’t that fortunate. The pond was sure pretty though.

We saw a family of spruce grouse as we left the pond area.

Spruce grouse are quite tame when they can be found but are harder to find than ruffed grouse.
