When a month has two full moons like July did, the second moon is called the Blue Moon. It didn’t look blue but it was a very beautiful moonrise nonetheless.

This weekend was Grand Marais’ Fishermen’s Picnic so many people were along the shore enjoying the moonrise.

My last photo of the evening was of this young lady having fun with her family. Grand Marais was living up to its title as the “Best Small Town in America”.

Fishermen's Picnic Moonrise

The next night was the Fishermen’s Picnic fireworks. Just before the fireworks began, the moon shown through the clouds.

As the full moon rose in the background, the fireworks exploded over a calm Grand Marais Harbor. It was a pretty awesome sight.

The first moonrise this last month was on July 2nd. We went to Two Harbors to photograph the moon behind the Edna G. tugboat.

When the moon appeared through the haze from the Canadian fires burning earlier in the month, it was red in color.

The Edna G. was the last working steam powered tugboat on Lake Superior. It is now a floating museum where self-guided tours are available during the summer months.
