We enjoyed another beautiful week of summer weather on the North Shore. I hiked up to Caribou Rock on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. It was a great afternoon with a few rain clouds. I had hoped to capture a rainbow over the lake but the blue sky turned out just as nice.

The best spot to photograph the lake is part of the way down the cliff face. As I was taking this photo an elderly gentlemen appeared at the edge of the cliff. He saw my backpack with no one around. I told him not to worry as I was taking photos. He asked, “Have you always been this crazy?” Then I showed him the path that I was on and he decided that it wasn’t as dangerous as he had thought.
Northern Lights Caribou Lake 001
For about four hours last night and early this morning we had beautiful aurora displays. I drove to Caribou Lake to take some photos at the boat landing. This young couple from Iowa was watching the aurora. There were some clouds over the lake so the colors were kind of muted at the start.
