With the ice melting in the smaller ponds and lakes along the North Shore the wood ducks have returned from their long winter down south.

I set up my blind near a pond close to our house and spent a couple of mornings watching and photographing these beautiful ducks.

There is no doubt that wood ducks with their colorful iridescent feathers are my favorite duck. When the light catches their head feathers just right, every color in the rainbow appears.

Wood ducks are very skittish. There is no way to approach them without a blind.

Many hours are invested sitting in the blind before the opportunity presents itself to get some close shots.
