Sunrise on Mt Sophie 001

This week I had the opportunity to tag along with Travis Novitsky and Jessica Barr as they photographed the sunrise on Mt Sophie. Mt Sophie is located in the Grand Portage Indian Reservation, which is home to Travis and Jessica. We climbed the fire tower and looked down on the maple ridge and nearby lakes. During the fall color season it is one of the best views in the county.

A slight amount of ground fog moved through the valleys and created a ghost like appearance.

The white spruce trees in the valley cast long shadows across the forest floor.

We didn’t see any frost on the way up but the sun’s rays created a frost like appearance on the branches of the trees.

Every direction was another stunning view. There were no bad pictures on such a beautiful morning.

On the way down we photographed some of the backcountry roads. The colors couldn’t have been better.

Fall Color Reflections

A nearby pond reflected the maples in its calm waters. Many of the bright red leaves were already floating on the pond’s surface. Peak color time is so fleeting. Timing is everything.
