Split Rock Sunrise 001

Lake Superior gave many opportunities for photography this week. Earlier in the week we had an appointment in Duluth. We planned to leave early enough to be at Split Rock Lighthouse at sunrise. It was one of the best sunrises we had seen in some time.

The colors in the sky and the surface of Lake Superior were incredible.

Stoney Point Ice Shards

On the way home we stopped at Stoney Point to look at the ice shards. With the warmer temperatures they were melting and forming pools of water on the surrounding ice. It made some great reflections.

The full moon was this weekend. Saturday night was the night before the full moon. The moon had already risen pretty high by the time the sun set but with the clouds it still made for a nice photo.

Tonight was the full moon.

The forecast was for cloudy skies. I didn’t know if the moon would show through the clouds. I decided to chance it and was sure glad I did. The moon rose as orange as I have ever seen it.

It was just another incredible evening.

For the last photo of the evening I put the camera on auto HDR just to see what would develop. Auto HDR is when the camera shoots three images to expose each of the areas of the photo and blends them together. I was very happy with the results.
