Read MoreGrand Marais Moonrise 001
I always enjoy watching the full moon rise over Lake Superior. The forecast for Wednesday’s full moon was for cloudy skies. Since Tuesday was clear I decided to go into Grand Marais to catch the sunset and see what the moon looked like the night before the full moon. Typically the day before the full moon the moon is too high by the time the sun sets to make for good photos.
This week was different. The Grand Marais harbor had just frozen so even though the moon was quite high the moonlight reflected across the fresh ice in the harbor. Along with the moonlight and lighthouse, the lights from downtown Grand Marais reflected on the harbor ice. It made for a pretty impressive winter scene. The smaller light next to the moon is Jupiter. I was glad I ventured out since Wednesday was cloudy and the full moon could not be seen.
