On a recent trip to Duluth Karla and I had an encounter with one of the north woods most elusive creatures, the lynx. This was the first time either of us have seen a lynx in the wild. He was feeding on a dead deer not far from the road. As we rounded the corner we saw him sitting right beside the deer.

He kept watching as we slowly drove closer. After a few minutes he moved away from the deer.

We noticed his huge feet. It is almost like he has his own pair of snowshoes.

He moved over the fluffy snow with ease.

After taking several photos I thought the lynx was going to jump over a nearby snow bank and disappear in the woods. He climbed the bank but then lay down on top of the snow. Karla and I couldn’t believe how fortunate we were to have this chance encounter with such a strikingly beautiful animal.
