Just before dark I took a long exposure to capture the spray in motion. This is called “motion blur”. It is created by taking at least a 1/8 second exposure

The waves were hitting a small “V” in the rock.

About every twentieth wave would send the spray up in the air creating a beautiful winter scene.

The spray froze to the brush and trees along the shoreline.

The spray covered the trees for about a 300-yard stretch just northeast of Grand Marais near Five Mile Rock.

It has some of the best ice so far this season. I photographed the ice sculptures both at sunrise and sunset.

The sun shone through the ice giving these icicles a beautiful color.

Just before sunset I set up under the branches of one of the trees and was fortunate to capture this sunburst.

When you have a person in the scene you realize how huge the ice sculptures are.

The evening sky had some great clouds, which created a nice background.

Hopefully this ice will remain for a few more days.

It is well worth the drive to see the beautiful ice.
