This week friends from Thailand visited our home. They have a small cabin adjacent to our property. When they left Thailand the temperature was 105 degrees and had been for some time. They were praying for snow and apparently it worked as we received 12 inches that evening. Their cabin looked like a perfect North Shore winter retreat. Lucy is very happy in this photo.

It was fun to see the spring snow through the young eyes of Lucy, Palmer and Sophie as they explored the area on snowshoes. We went out after dark to snowshoe through the pines. Our headlamps lit the huge flakes of sticky snow that were beginning to cover the trees. We heard the calls of a barred owl.

The next morning just before Sophie started building her snowman, she looks up at the snow-covered trees and with excitement in her eyes said “Look, a gift from God”. The heavy wet snow bent the tree branches creating snow sculptures that appear as all kinds of creatures from snakes to elephants. I have to admit the snow looked beautiful but with this year being the third snowiest winter on record, a lot of the local residents would not have received it as a “gift from God”.
