Duluth Hot Air Balloon Festival 001

Since hot air balloons had not flown over Duluth in 120 years Karla and I decided to go to the festival on Saturday. Flying hot air balloons are completely dependent on the weather. The winds on Saturday evening were light enough to fill the balloons and give people tethered rides but they couldn't actually fly them. That didn't seem to matter to the hundreds of people enjoying the bright colors as the balloons took shape.

The white lines in this photo is from the helicopters that are giving rides. One is taking off and flew thru the screen during the exposure and the back one is the second helicopter coming in for a landing.

September Moonrise over Grand Marais

Back in Grand Marais the full moon was lighting up the harbor. This photo was taken on Friday night. Notice the canada goose on the rock in the moon beam. This was a ten second exposure and the goose was very cooperative standing perfectly still for all that time. In the next exposure the goose was gone. I never saw the goose until I looked at the photos on the camera.
