As hunters begin searching for the buck of their dreams many of those bucks are finding safe places to hide. This deer was one of those bucks. After Karla’s retirement coffee on Friday we stopped at the Two Harbors campground to look for deer. After driving around several of the loops I saw antlers under some of the brush. This nice 9 pointer was bedded down near the edge of a ravine.

I grabbed my camera and started to walk up to him. He let me get pretty close before he stood up and started to move into the thicker brush. After I circled him and worked my way down the hill I gave a few grunt calls to see if he would respond. He did more than respond! He made me a little worried.

He stretched his neck and held the pose long enough for me to get some good photos then he put his head down and started grunting. Between listening to his grunts and watching his neck muscles twitch back and forth I decided to retreat to the safety of the car. I have never had a deer attack but I didn’t want this one to be the first.
