Just outside of Grand Marais I stopped at a fox den. The cute little fox kits were safe and cozy in their den.

There are three of them in this particular den and the mom brought some food while I was there.

The kits were hungry and it didn’t take long for them to devour the small rodent dropped in front of the den.

May Snowstorm Grand Portage 001

Who would think that we would be having snowstorms in May? Last week most of the North Shore was able to escape the snow but Grand Portage received six inches.

I drove to Grand Portage State Park to photograph the High Falls. When I pulled into the parking lot a half mile from the falls I could hear the thundering sounds of the water crashing over the 125 foot falls. It was a beautiful walk to the falls. The trees were covered with snow and I saw fresh tracks of fox, otter and snowshoe hare. I also saw a black wolf as it disappeared into the snow covered brush.

When I got to the falls I was glad I had my raincoat as spray was continuously coating the walkway and overlooks.
