Read MoreIce Shards
Lake Superior has had some pretty interesting ice displays recently. Each night has been cold enough to form ice. During the day the onshore breezes have forced the newly formed ice into piles along the shore. The best ice piles have been at Brighton Beach in Duluth and Stoney Point south of Two Harbors.Ore Boats 002
More ice shards were being forced up on the shore as the thousand foot freighters passed by. We just sat there and listened to the tinkling of the ice as piece after piece broke off and piled up on the shore. It was just another one of those days that makes you appreciate living by the largest freshwater lake in the world.Skiing Stoney Point 004
I skied past this homemade raft that had washed up on the beach. I would love to know the story behind the making of this not-so-seaworthy craft. It looked like something out of a Huck Finn novel. There are no houses along this stretch of beach so this raft must have floated in from somewhere across Lake Superior.
