Ice Arch

The week started off with onshore winds that created some nice piles of ice along the North Shore. The waves slowly washed out the bottom of the ice piles creating several beautiful ice arches. They didn’t last long as warm temps caused them to collapse.

We found this ice cave at Stoney Point. It was still sound when I left but probably collapsed during the night.

Barred Owl in Snowstorm

Saturday it started to snow. Just before the snow started to pile up this barred owl was sitting in a small birch beside our bird feeder. It must have heard some mice running around under the feeder.

Cascade River

After the snow stopped I headed down to the Cascade River to get a photo with the beautiful fresh snow reflected in the open water near the mouth. The reflected snow looks almost like a small waterfall.
