On the other hand, Courtney is scared of birds. Her expression says it all. Though fearful and with a racing heart, she was a good sport and let the chickadee land on her hand. But she couldn't open her eyes.

On our way home we stopped at David & Mary Brislance’s to experience chickadees up close. David feeds them regularly and they have become quite tame. Lauren loves birds and her smile indicates that it was a memory maker for her.

Our last hike was with friends that were camping at Cascade River State Park. Lauren and Courtney loved the hike around the top of Oberg Mountain.

I really enjoy hiking when the new leaves of spring stand out with their many shades of green. Between the light greens of the ferns, aspen and birch and the darker shades of the spruce, balsam and pine, the North Shore comes alive with spring colors. Last week we hiked to several locations along the shore.

Palisade Head provides a great vantage point to see up the shore toward the Sawtooth Mountain Range.

In Tettegouche State Park, we hiked to the top of Palisade Head. The lake was exceptionally blue as we looked east toward Shovel Point.
