Along the way you see many abandoned farm buildings that were handcrafted in the early 1900’s. This particular one was very interesting.

Albino Beaver 001

Our most exciting find for the day was this albino beaver that is also calling Moose Lake State Park home.

The family consists of three dark colored beaver, one lighter brown or blond colored one and this albino. I am going to have to spend more time in Moose Lake State Park.

Automba Population 6

The shortest distance between the two parks takes you along an old gravel road that travels through Automba, Minnesota, population 6. Automba was a very active lumber town before it was completely burned out during the 1918 fire. It was never rebuilt. I think the population is even less than 6 now.

Painted Turtle 001

We went to my brother and sister-in-law’s 50th wedding anniversary party this weekend. Along the way we took in two state parks, Savanna Portage and Moose Lake. At Savanna we found many painted turtles sunning themselves either on logs or each other.

These turtles are so colorful. I always enjoy seeing turtles.

Trumpeter Swan

There is a large beaver pond in Moose Lake State Park with interesting wildlife. We photographed this Trumpeter Swan sitting on eggs. The cygnets should be hatching out soon.
