We have family visiting from Atlanta this week so we got to spend quality time with our granddaughter who, much like her grandfather, loves the outdoors. The last three days we camped at Moose Lake State Park where Addie experienced many different critters. Kayaking on Echo Lake with Grandma and Poppy was a highlight of Addie’s day.

First we got to see a blue heron. We were able to kayak right up to the blue heron as it caught a fish.

As it departed, it flew right over our heads.

Next we found a family of loons.

Both parents and two chicks swam by and allowed us to get some close-up photos.

A young couple fishing nearby told us excitedly how the loons caught a fish right in front of them.

Back at the campsite, we found many just-opened wild roses. The bees were busy going from flower to flower. Addie, who normally is afraid of bees, was content to watch and even photograph the bees herself. She took this photo.

Exploring the ferns was also a lot of fun.

On the way back to return the kayak paddles, we found this huge snapping turtle laying eggs in the road. They prefer to lay their eggs in a sandy, sunny location. Addie used her new camera to take a few photos.
