Aurora Borealis 001

We experienced another incredibly beautiful week along the North Shore. It started with a beautiful display of northern lights. I checked Spaceweather.com to see if there had been any sunspot activity. The forecast was for northern lights sometime Monday night. Typically, they don’t happen until midnight or later but on Monday when I looked out our window at about 7:00 p.m. they had already started. I called a friend and we headed up to Caribou Lake to see if we could capture the aurora borealis reflected in the calm waters of the lake. We weren’t disappointed.

Caribou Lake was like glass. We hardly had time to set up our tripods when the sky exploded with color.

We sat in complete silence watching God paint the evening sky.

Red Maples

Some of the maple leaves were still bright red.

Gunflint Trail Aspens

The next day we drove up the Gunflint Trail to see the golden aspen that line the sides of the road. The aspen had exceptional color this year.

Hungry Jack Lake Fog Bow

After hiking the trail to Honeymoon Bluff we took pictures of the fog as it lifted off of Hungry Jack Lake. All of a sudden there was a completely white rainbow or actually a fog bow right before our eyes. Neither of us had ever experienced such a sight before.

Trestle Pine Lake

On the way home we photographed several of the lakes. We found this fisherman heading out to fish trout on Trestle Pine.
