Beginning in late October and continuing through the month of February the path of the rising full moon crosses behind the historic Split Rock Lighthouse. October’s full moon is called the “Hunters Moon” and on Monday we drove down the shore with hopes that the skies would be clear so we could photograph this magical event. Watching the moon rise behind the lighthouse is never a disappointment but this one was breathtaking.Hunters Moon Over Split Rock 004
My last photo was a 30 second exposure capturing the beam of light as it penetrated a light fog coming off of Lake Superior.
The next time the light will be turned on will be this weekend on November 10 for the annual beacon lighting to commemorate the loss of the freighter “Edmund Fitzgerald” which sank in 1975. I would highly recommend taking it in.
