The North Shore experienced some spectacular northern lights this week. Wednesday sunspot AR 1429 exploded and hurled a coronal mass ejection of charged particles towards earth. Late Thursday night when those charged particles collided with the earth’s atmosphere the show was on.
We first saw the green pulsating aurora about 11:30 PM. The sky just lit up behind the warm glow of the canvas tent. It gives you a feeling of wilderness even though this tent was set up on the pond in our backyard.Northern Lights 002
Thursday was also the night of the full moon. The moon was bright enough that it cast shadows across the pond. The light show continued well past 2:30 AM Friday. At times I just couldn’t take my eyes off the sky. Green bands of pulsating light would shoot over my head like ripples on the water. Standing out under the stars watching northern lights is near the top on my list of fun things to do along the North Shore.
